When it comes to modifying a truck most of us will spend countless hours, days or even weeks trying to figure out the perfect setup for a new build. With the vast amount of aftermarket options out there the build possibilities are almost endless. You might have a truck that is fresh out of the factory or a 20 year old gem, either way the desire to give our vehicles a unique touch is almost a given.
At Intense Diesel we have decided to start a new series in which we pick a certain model truck and go over our “dream build” if given the opportunity. Starting off the series we will be dream building a 2015 Chevy Duramax and showing the exact items we would choose for the build.
Truck: 2015 Chevy Duramax
The truck we picked for this build is a 2015 Chevy 2500 Duramax 4×4 Crew Cab with a standard bed. The truck has the LTZ package which features the top level trim available for the truck. The color of the truck is Summit White but it has chrome door handles as well as chrome trim, chrome bumpers and grille.
This truck is a perfect candidate for a build because it has yet to be modified in any way. If you are building a truck that is not to your specifications that offers a great opportunity as well. Removing the current modifications and selling them is a great way to help fund a new build.
Suspension: Bulletproof Suspension 10-12″
With a multitude of suspension options on the market this build will be receiving a 10-12″ Bulletproof Suspension kit. My first recognition of the Bulletproof kits was the appearance of one on a 2002 Chevy 2500 that graced the cover of 2002 Sport Truck magazine. These kits along with Full Throttle Suspension(FTS) were among the first to do the 10″ plus lifts for the IFS front ends.
The decision to go with kit is because of the one I first saw as it really made an impression on me. The first suspension kit I had was on a 1999 Silverado 1500 and the kit was a Fabtech 6″ that held up well. The second kit I purchased was the CTS 9-11″ kit that I put on my 2005 Silverado 2500, that kit seemed of a lot better quality than the Fabtech.
The lift will be powder coated HD Teal by Prismatic Powders and come with the optional dual reservoir shocks both front and rear. This kit also has a option for a Cantilever setup in the rear but we wont be adding that this time around.
Wheels: CK05 Shiv Concave Series by American Force
With even more options available than suspension lifts, choosing a set of wheels can be an overwhelming task. Picking something that is unique as well as picking something that you will enjoy is often difficult. The first quality when choosing wheels was making sure they are well made and high strength. The guys at American Force have created some of the most iconic wheels on the market with their unique forged wheels. They are adding new designs to their arsnal each year and have some fresh designs for 2018.
Their Concave Series is a new line up they have created that features wheels with a more dimensional pattern. The model we are going with is the CK05 Shiv and the sizing will be a 22×14″ with a -90mm offset. The wheels come in a polished finished but we will have them finished in a gloss black.
Tires: Toyo Open Country M/T
Having been in the tire business for over 15 years running a quality tire is a must. I have seen the best wear/ride come from both Toyo which led us to the Open Country M/T for this build.
The size will be a 40×15.50×22 and should fit nicely on the 22×14’s. The trend of stretching tires often leads to problems and even though this is a dream build reliability will always trump a trendy look.
